I used a old head manifold line and cut the banjo fitting line where it starts to go 90 degrees at the tee. The line is 1/4", and I bought a premium stainless compression fitting to use on the oil gauge line. Using a piece of 1" aluminum strap as a support bracket, and studded the right bolt hole on the starter shaft journal cover.

Once again under general driving no leak, but after some aggressive driving the leak was back. Dealer replaced oil return line and new washers. Within a few days it was back in the shop for oil leak.

Assuming you're buying the OEM filter from a Subaru dealer, they should be giving you a new washer with each one. It's an aluminum washer that's sort of folded over on itself so that it crushes. I just did an oil change, so here's a picture of the washers (used on the left, new on the right): Notice that the left one is appreciably flattened.
