Hi I've just joined because of this particular thread. I have a small milling machine that has a 600W x 220v brushed DC motor. The instruction manual advises that if you run at a high speed , say 2000rpm and then stop the machine you must turn the speed control knob down to the lowest speed before restarting the machine. They do not work with DC. A potentiometer is a resistance device used by feeding current from one end to the other and drawing off a desired Voltage potential from the moveable tap. If you apply an electrical source to one end and no connection at the other and draw current from the moveable tap it is a Rheostat. I would like to control 12v DC with a sliding potentiometer. I would like the current to go from 0-12v DC, but I dont know whay resistance to get? I would also like to know how to wire them as I noticed the had 3 terminals, mabye ones a ground? If…
